Seven Haunting Hikes

4. Big Bend National Park, Texas

Big Bend

Local park rangers say hikers often report hearing peculiar noises and strange “things” in the howling winds returning from a trip in the Chisos Mountains. The name, given to the mountains many years ago by the native people, means ghost, or spirit in the native language, and they avoided the area believing them to be alive with the spirits of the dead. Listening to the wind whistle through the desolate range, surrounded by such an eerily breathtaking landscape, it’s easy to understand that reputation and the many myths and legends associated with these mountains.
